CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Excess volatility increases risk further. Be cautious. Past performance is not an indication of future results.

Beginner questions, sorted by which screen answers them — Sri Lanka

Most beginner questions have an address. Once you know whether the answer lives on the ticket, in the settings, on the creation screen or nowhere at all, half of them answer themselves.

Answered on the order ticket

These are questions about a number you can see while placing a trade.

Why does a new trade show a small loss straight away?

Because a position opens on the far side of the spread — the gap between the two prices quoted at any moment. It is the cost of opening, it is visible before confirmation, and it applies on every account type. Nothing has gone wrong.

How small can a trade be?

A lot is the standard order size; one lot of EUR/USD is 100,000 euros. The size box on a regular account will not go below 0.01 lots, and an arrangement that counts the balance in cents runs the same order roughly 100 times smaller than that.

What is one pip actually worth?

It depends on the volume you typed, not on the market. A pip is the step from 1.1000 to 1.1001; at 0.01 lots it is worth about 10 cents, so a stop 20 pips away caps the loss at roughly $2. The platform prints the exact figure before you confirm.

What is the swap line for?

It is the small charge or credit applied when a position is held past the daily rollover, shown before you confirm and repeated each night the trade stays open. A swap-free option removes it on eligible instruments; the spread and any commission still apply.

Answered in the settings

These live in the personal area — the private dashboard that appears after sign-up — and every one of them is changed without opening a new account.

Where is leverage set, and does the account type decide it?

It is a setting in the personal area, and the type does not decide it. This catches people out: opening a smaller account does not lower it, because it stays wherever it was left. Leverage multiplies gains and losses at exactly the same rate, so setting it low deliberately is part of the first day.

Why does the MetaTrader password not work in the personal area?

They are separate logins. The personal area password manages the accounts; each trading account has its own platform password, set inside the personal area. Resetting one leaves the other untouched.

How is two-step verification switched on?

Under Settings, then Security settings, at the 2-step Verification entry. It costs nothing, takes a minute, and is the one security control that is entirely your responsibility.

Can the practice balance be changed?

Yes. A practice account starts with $10,000 in virtual funds and the Set Balance control resets it at any time. Setting it close to the figure you would actually fund makes the sizing arithmetic realistic rather than theatrical.

Does the platform choice change anything?

Not about cost or conditions. Exness Terminal in a browser, the Exness Trade app on a phone, MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 all reach the same account, the same positions and the same balance. It is a preference, not a commitment.

Answered on the creation screen — and only there

Two fields on the sign-up form are settled once. Questions about them have the same shape of answer: a new account alongside the existing one.

Can the account type be changed later?

Not in place. Another account is opened next to it, and a single login carries up to 100 MetaTrader 4 and 100 MetaTrader 5 accounts, 200 in total, so nothing has to be closed first. The type carries the cost model and the smallest order the account accepts, and touches nothing else.

Can the currency the account holds be changed?

No — it is chosen at creation from the options listed for that type. Money arriving in another currency is converted on the way in by the payment provider, which is why that line is worth reading slowly rather than skimming.

How much is needed to open a funded account?

Standard sets no minimum deposit. Other account types carry a region-based minimum, and the exact figure is displayed during sign-up before any money moves. A minimum belongs to an account type; it is not a recommendation about your money.

Why are identity documents requested?

Because rules against fraud and money laundering require a broker to confirm who a client is before money moves in their name. It happens once, before real funds are involved, and a practice account never reaches the step.

Not answered on any screen

These are the questions with no field attached, which is exactly why they are the expensive ones.

How much should be deposited?

No screen answers this and no page can either. The usable test is a sentence: if the amount went to zero tomorrow, would daily life change? Write the figure down and date it before opening the sign-up form, because a minimum read next to an undecided figure quietly turns into a suggestion.

How long until real money is sensible?

There is no number of weeks, and anyone naming one is guessing. A practice account has no time limit, so nothing pushes the decision. What can be checked is behaviour: is the size chosen before the direction, is the stop filled before the confirm button, and has a losing run already passed without either changing.

Is trading a fast way to make money?

No, and nobody can promise a trading result — not a stranger, not a broker, not this site. Many people lose money when they start, usually by rushing past everything on the pages above. Treat the first months as inexpensive practice rather than income.

Can more be lost than was deposited?

Negative Balance Protection means clients never lose more than they've deposited. Everything that was deposited can still be lost, which is why the figure written before the form matters more than any setting after it.

Who runs this site, and why is it free?

It is an independent guide, not the broker, and it never holds anyone's money. The buttons lead through a partner link to the official exness.com website, and a commission may be paid if someone registers there. Visitors pay nothing extra, and none of the sorting above changes because of it.

What if something here is still unclear?

Support is available 24/7 for anything about the accounts themselves. For the basics, a question can be asked here, or the whole route is laid out in order on start here.

Most of these are quicker to look at than to read about.

A practice account takes an email and a password and puts every screen above in front of you, on live prices, with virtual money and no time limit.

The button is a partner link — it leads to the official exness.com sign-up page.
