CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Excess volatility increases risk further. Be cautious. Past performance is not an indication of future results.

A control inventory for beginners

Six controls. Find them, set them, then think about trading. — Sri Lanka

A trading account hands you a small number of levers and a large number of numbers you cannot touch. Confusing the two is where beginners lose the thread. This site takes an inventory of the levers, shows which screen each one lives on, and stops there — nothing here forecasts a price.

Every lever below can be found and rehearsed on an account that holds virtual money and asks for an email and a password. Many people lose money when they start trading — very often on a control they never knew they had.

The inventory

Every lever an account gives you, and the screen that holds it

Six entries. Four are adjusted whenever you like; two are answered once on the sign-up form and then belong to that account for good. Nothing else on any screen responds to you at all.

Control Where it lives How often you set it
Leverage Personal area, in the account settings Once, deliberately — then leave it
Volume The order ticket, top half Every single trade
Stop-loss level The order ticket, before the confirm button Every single trade
Platform Wherever you sign in Whenever it suits — the account underneath does not notice
Account type The sign-up form Once, per account
The currency the account holds The sign-up form Once, per account

On a practice account there is a seventh: the balance itself, reset from the Set Balance control whenever an exercise changes. It is the only figure on this site that genuinely does not matter. What the last two rows commit an account to

The routine

What you see, what to check, what to do next

Four passes over screens you already have open. Under a minute once it is habit, and no step requires an opinion about where a price is going.

  1. Open the settings and look at the leverage figure

You see: a ratio nobody remembers choosing. Check: whether it was ever set on purpose — it is a setting on the account, not a property of the account type, so opening a different account does not lower it. Next: set it low deliberately and note the date. Why low is the learning setting

  2. Find the floor under the volume box

You see: a size field that refuses to go below a certain number. Check: what that number is, because the account type set it and you cannot argue with it. Next: use the floor on a first trade, and fill this box before choosing a direction, never after. The ticket, sorted

  3. Fill the stop-loss box while it is still empty

You see: an optional field that most people skip. Check: the figure the platform prints once it is filled — that is the most the trade can now take, and the instruction is held on the trading server rather than on your phone. Next: never reach the confirm button with this box empty. Verify the figure yourself

  4. Write one line once the trade closes

You see: an outcome nobody controlled. Check: whether the two ticket levers were set before the click or afterwards. Next: record volume, stop level and what the trade cost. Repeat until the honest answer is always "before". The route in order

Not levers

Three numbers that report to you and take no instructions

These appear on the same screens as the controls, which is exactly why they get mistaken for them. Recognising a reading and moving on is a skill in itself.

The gap between two prices

Every instrument quotes two prices at once, and a position opens on the far side of the gap. That is why a new trade shows a small minus immediately. It is visible before you confirm, and no setting narrows it.

Where the gap comes from

The number moving while a trade is open

The running profit or loss is not an opinion about the trade. It is the price movement multiplied by the volume you typed — which makes it a readout of your own lever rather than a verdict.

Reading it without touching anything

The overnight line

Hold a position past the daily rollover and a swap is applied — shown in advance, repeated each night the trade stays open. A swap-free option removes it on eligible instruments; it is set on the account, not on the ticket.

Where that option is set
Where to do the inventory

The same panel, with the bill switched off

This is a mechanical argument for starting on a practice account rather than a cautious one. The levers are in the same places and the readings behave identically — so the whole inventory can be taken before anything charges.

Screen Practice account Funded account
Order ticket Same boxes, same floor, same readings Identical
Leverage setting Adjustable, with no consequence for getting it wrong Adjustable — and the consequence is immediate
Balance Starts at $10,000 in virtual funds; resets from Set Balance Moves only by depositing, withdrawing or trading
What is asked to open it An email and a password Identity verification before real money moves

What the practice account settles, and the one thing it cannot

The broker

Conditions that are neither lever nor reading

Exness is a global online broker, operating since 2008. Nothing below appears on a screen you adjust — it applies while you learn to work the ones that do.

Negative Balance Protection

Negative Balance Protection means clients never lose more than they've deposited. No control enables it and none removes it.

CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage.

Instant withdrawals

The majority of withdrawals are processed automatically, providing quick, 24/7 access to funds.

Processing times may vary depending on the chosen payment method.

One account behind every platform

Exness Terminal in a browser, the Exness Trade app on a phone, MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 all reach the same positions and the same balance.

Trading is risky and may not be suitable for everyone. Only trade money you can afford to lose.

Support at any hour

Support is available 24/7, and the personal area — the private dashboard that appears after sign-up — always holds the current version of every screen named here.

Conditions shown in the personal area are the current ones; any page describing them can lag behind.

The honest part: an inventory is not a method

Knowing where the levers are does not make a trade work. It decides what happens when one does not — which is the part a beginner can control. Three things sit outside the panel completely, and no control reaches them.

  • Money that was never losable. Rent, bills, savings a household depends on. A small volume makes a loss small in currency, not in consequence.
  • The trade placed to recover the last one. It arrives larger and sooner. No box on the ticket slows it down; a written rule to stop for the day does.
  • A stop-loss widened while the trade is open. The lever was set correctly and then unset by hand, which is the same as never having used it.

Each is worked through in the safety rules, and the ways they get rationalised are collected in beginner mistakes.

Questions

Questions of the form "where is that, and can it be changed?"

Where is the leverage control, and does the account type set it?

It sits in the personal area, in the account settings, and the type does not set it. That matters more than it sounds: opening a different account does not lower it, because it keeps whatever value it was left at.

Which numbers on the trading screen actually respond to me?

Volume, stop-loss level and direction on the ticket; leverage and platform outside it; the balance too, but only on a practice account. Everything else is either reported back or was answered on the sign-up form.

Can the account type be changed after the account exists?

Not in place — another account is opened alongside it from the personal area. A single login carries up to 100 MetaTrader 4 and 100 MetaTrader 5 accounts, 200 in total, so nothing has to be closed to change approach.

Can the currency an account holds be changed?

No. It is chosen at creation from the options listed for that type and stays. Money arriving in a different currency is converted on the way in by the payment provider, which is why that line deserves a slow read on the form.

Why does the MetaTrader password not work in the personal area?

They are separate logins: one manages the accounts, the other connects to them. Resetting one leaves the other alone. Two-step verification, meanwhile, is switched on under Settings, then Security settings.

What has to be deposited to open a funded account?

Standard sets no minimum deposit; other account types carry a region-based minimum, and the exact figure is displayed during sign-up before any money moves. A minimum belongs to an account type and is not advice about your money — decide your own figure before the form is open.

Who runs this site, and why is it free?

It is an independent guide, not the broker, and it never holds anyone's money. The buttons lead through a partner link to the official exness.com website where accounts actually live, and a commission may be paid if someone registers there. Visitors pay nothing extra.
